Handcrafted with love in India

Our story

About MittiVastra

Clay art, shaped by hand in India. Every piece begins as raw earth and becomes something worth keeping.

Who we are

Our Story

MittiVastra was born from a love of clay and a belief that handmade objects carry something factory-made ones cannot — the quiet evidence of a human hand at work.

What started as a small studio practice grew into a brand that brings traditional Indian clay craftsmanship to people who value authenticity, character and patient making.

We work with natural clay and terracotta, shaping each piece on the wheel or by hand, painting every pattern freehand, and packing every order ourselves. No two pieces are identical — and that is the point.

Our craft

Seven steps, all by hand

Every MittiVastra piece passes through the same patient sequence. Small differences in shape, tone and pattern are the record of that process.

01

Clay selection

We source natural river clay and terracotta earth, choosing the right body for each piece.

02

Shaping

Each piece is thrown on the wheel or sculpted by hand — never cast from a mould.

03

Drying

Pieces dry slowly in shade so they release moisture evenly and hold their shape.

04

Firing

Kiln-fired at the right temperature to achieve strength, colour and the signature ring of good terracotta.

05

Painting & finishing

Patterns are drawn freehand with fine brushes. No stencils, no transfers.

06

Quality checking

Every piece is inspected for cracks, balance and finish before it is approved.

07

Packaging

Wrapped in recycled paper and cushioned for safe delivery to your door.

Philosophy

Why handmade matters

A handmade product is not "imperfect" — it carries the trace of the person who made it. The slight unevenness of a wheel-thrown rim, the warmth of a freehand brush stroke, the natural colour shift between batches of clay: these are features, not flaws.

When you choose handmade, you choose to value time, skill and individuality over uniformity. You support a living tradition that employs artisans rather than assembly lines.

MittiVastra exists to keep that tradition alive — and to prove that handmade art belongs in modern homes just as much as it ever did.

What drives us

Our Values

Handmade craftsmanship

Every product is made entirely by human hands, preserving skills passed down through generations.

Indian tradition

Our designs draw from India's folk, tribal and classical art vocabularies.

Creativity

We treat each piece as an original work — not mass production, but artisan expression.

Sustainability

Clay is a natural, abundant material. Our processes use minimal energy and produce negligible waste.

Quality

We reject pieces that don't pass inspection. Every product that ships meets our standard.

Authenticity

No shortcuts, no factory moulds, no misleading claims. What you see is what was made by hand.
